How to Create an About Page that Converts!

Want to know a secret? Actually, let’s start with a question. What page on your website do you think is typically most visited? And which page will help people connect with you on a deeper level?

If you read the title of this post, you know that answer. And it isn’t much of a secret. But the about page is often the most neglected page as well! Ahem, even I can neglect mine.

And why?

Because we’re taught not to brag, not to flaunt and to make everything we write for our audience. An about page, where we talk about ourselves, seems counterproductive.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Your about page is what people are going to look into when they’re first discovering you. When they’re looking to connect with you and determine if you’re the resource they need in their arsenol. It’s even what they’ll look at when they’re trying to decide to make a purchase from you.

So let’s not leave our about page neglected… instead, let’s make it amazing!

Now, of course, you’ll need certain content on your about page. And that can be summed up with 4 points.

  1. Who
  2. What
  3. How
  4. Why

 

The Who.

Who is your website for? Who are you marketing to? You want your audience to know if your working for them! You also want to let them know who you are. This means your name as well. I know, I know. But would you believe that I’ve come across websites with no name? Even if you use a pen name, you should absolutely include a name.

The What.

What do you do? What is your primary focus? What is your website about? You want to be clear on what your mission is! Maybe even include your mission statement.

The How.

How will you solve problems? How will you ease pain points and change lives?

The Why.

Okay… I want to be super clear here. You need to share why someone would choose your business/blog over another. But you need to do it without cutting others down or “bragging.” Do so by highlighting your strengths and things that set you apart in the market.

 

Those are the basics. But how can we make it even better?

Because you really can’t just plop the answers to those questions on your about page and call it a day!

Begin with a Headline.

Sure. You could start with a hi, but that won’t be very engaging. Instead, start with an eye catching and curiosity inducing headline.

Use a Welcoming Tone.

By keeping your about page conversational, you humanize your business. And people connect with people. And that connection equals more conversion!

Introduce Yourself.

Share some information about yourself, your accomplishments. Even include a photo! It’s important for people to be able to put a name to a face. When sharing a headshot, make it a professional looking one. You can even learn how to DIY your headshots by clicking here!

Include Visuals.

Keep the page interesting by adding different visual elements, like graphics and photos.

Include a Call to Action and How to Contact You.

Don’t let them leave your page without knowing what to do next! Share your top posts with them, drop your opt in form there and include a way for them to contact you!
